CANNON BEACH , OREGON , Janury 15, 2010. Michael Tieman is now casting the sculpture “Courage” in an 18” size Cancer Family Edition for $1800, for those families who have had or have love ones battling Cancer. While Tieman has never had cancer himself, he has dealt with the pain of watching four women in his family fight the disease, one of them tragically losing. “I have had such a wonderful response to my 36” bronze cast ‘Courage,' not only from the local and national press,” says artist Michael Tieman, “but especially from those who came to her unveiling in Cannon Beach and her dedication at Akron City Hospital's Jean and Milton Cooper Cancer Center this last year. At both ceremonies I explained that I had incorporated ideas and stories of healing from survivors into the very body and soul of ‘Courage'. Art heals and I thanked them for making her a healer, and I hoped she would give back to them as much as they gave to her.” “Since that dedication, I have wondered how I could get this powerful piece into the hands of more of those who have had, or are currently battling, Cancer to help with their healing. I have been in negotiations with a foundry here in Oregon that has agreed to cast this special limited edition at a very good price. When someone buys this piece I will also carve the name of their loved one into the base.” This special Cancer Family Edition will be released on the international market, but is limited to the first 500 requests and will be marked as “CFE #_/500”. To keep the price low, one can only order this piece directly through Tieman. The price is $1800US each plus shipping. (The regular limited edition 18” piece now sells in Art Galleries and online for $5000 and includes a $2300 tax deductable donation to Cancer Support Services).
